Ganesh Chaturthi and Chatha Parva today
Lord Ganesh is being worshipped across the nation on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi today.
The festival is celebrated every year on the fourth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Bhadra (Bhadra Shukla Chaturthi) according to the lunar calendar.
The devotees have throng the shrines of God Ganesh on the occassion by paying homeage, believing to remove obstructions and hurdles from their life and career. It is also believed to bring peace and happiness too by worshipping god Ganesha.
Lord Ganesh, the son of Shiva and Parwati, is worshipped at the beginning of any religious ritual or undertakings.
Devotees particularly throng the temples at Ashok Binayak and Chandra Binayak in Kathmandu, Suryabinayak and Kamal Binayak in Bhaktapur.
Similarly, Newar community celebrates the day as Chatha Parva, by worshipping Moon. They have “Halmali”, a mixture from different grains like maize, chickpeas, etc.
