Hundreds demonstrate in Bara with body of rape victim
Displaying the body of seven-year-old rape victim, Save Daughters Struggle Committee staged a demonstration in front of the District Administration and the District Police Office in the district headquarters Kalaiya today.
Hundreds of people including the members of general public, champions of civil society and leaders of political parties participated in the demonstration, seeking justice to the girl and others who were preyed on by sexual predators in the district recently.
The demonstrators imposed shutdown down in Kailaya for some hours after 2 p.m. today.
The seven-year-old was found dumped in a very critical condition at Madarsha Tole of Kailaiya on February 21. She died at the Kanti Children’s Hospital in Kathmandu during the course of treatment two days ago.
The victim’s body was brought to her town today for cremation.
The Struggle Committee has demanded that Rs 2 million each be provided to the families of all victims who were raped and murdered in Kalaiya.
Also, it has sought installation of CCTV surveillance cameras and beefing up of security in the city.
Earlier, locals had staged similar demonstration at the main junction of Simara when the ambulance ferrying the body had reached Simara from Kathmandu.
