Royal Penguin Ultra Marathon on Oct 5
Royal Penguin Ultra Marathon for the 60 km will held on October 5. As all the preparations have been completed according to the organizer of the marthon at a press meet at Royal Penguin Boutigue Hotel in Thamel on Thursday. The marathon will be organized in the Everest region.
The top three winners of the complete marathon will be awarded with Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. Likewise the winner in the women’s category and veteran winner (above 45 years of age) will be awarded Rs 5000 each. If they are also the winners of the complete race, they will be awarded with a purse of Rs 25,000.
The race starts from Namche Bazaar and passes through Dole, Gokyo, Renjo Pass, Marlung and Thame again ending at Namche. The marathon reaches the highest altitude of 5340 m at Renjo Pass.
The participants need to complete each point within certain hours. If any participants give up the race within 17 hours, they will be assisted by volunteers to the nearest hotel.
Participants will earn certain points after making it to each intermediate point. The rest time at each destination will be deducted from the total points, which is 5000.
Local volunteers has been stationed at different points for the rescue of participants.
This marathon qualifies as the most beautiful and challenging trails in the world. The marathon is also an initiative to establish Nepal as the most ideal adventure sports destination.
