Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon completes with enthusiasm

The 11th Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon completes with enthusiastic participation from 17 different countries. It is an open marathon both for men and women from Everest base camp to Namche Bazaar.
In the marathon, Ram Kumar Rajbhandary has won by crossing the finishing line in 3 hours, 59 minutes and 45 seconds on Wednessday. Along with this victory, he has also bagged cash prize of Rs. 100,000.
Likewise, D.B. Kulung Rai became the second to complete the race with the timing of 4 hours, 11 minutes and 5seconds. And third position was bagged by by Tirtha Tamang with the timing of 4 hours, 12 minutes and 9 seconds.
The marathon was organised to mark the 60th anniversary of ascent of Mount Everest by the Himalayan Expedition. This marathon is globally acclaimed world’s highest marathon.
The highest peak of the world or the roof of the world has passed 60 years since the first human footsteps by Tenzing Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary had scaled the world’s tallest peak in 1953 AD.
The 42.195km race was initiated from the Everest Base Camp (5,365m) and sprawled through Gorak Shep (5,160), Lobuche (4,928), Thukla (4,611), Bibre (4,492), Pyangboche (3,995), Thyangboche (3,890), Lobisasa (3,495), Kangjuma (3,592), Chorten (3,560) before concluding at the Namche Bazaar (3,465).
To keep the event environment friendly, the organizers have also launched a revolutionary Eco Expedition concept for the first time in the world, called ECCR (Everest Climb, Clean & Run). The campaign is led by Indian Expedition Team under the leadership of Somit Joshi, a veteran Indian mountaineer.
