Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon shortened

The Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon which is set to start on Thursday has been shortened due to bad weather. It has been stortened by five kilometers.
Earlier the event was scheduled to start from the Everest Base camp now will start from Gorakshep.
According to the president of Himalayan Expedition, Bikram Pandey, the starting point was moved five kilometers ahead due to the unfavourable weather and considering the safety of the runners.
Marathon has been continously organized by Himalayan Expedition on May 29 since 11 years to mark the day when Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary conquered Everest,the World’s Highest Peak for the first time on May 29, 1958.
Besides the marathon, 60k Extreme Everest Extreme Ultra Marathon has been added since the last year to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the first ascent of Everest. The marathon will see participation of 136 runners including 40 Nepalis, while 15 Nepali and foreigners each will vie for the 60 k race.
