Vijaya Dashami-tenth day of Dashain

durga-maa-dashain

The Vijaya Dashami is finally here. The tenth day of the 15 day long festival Dashain, Maha-Dasami is being celebrated all over the country on Friday. On this day, elders in the family put tika on forehead and jamara to all the family members along with blessings.

The jamar which was planted on Ghatasthapana day is disposed in the rivers and ponds as per religious rituals (Visarjan) and the auspicious time for receiving Tika is 10 AM onwards.

Although the auspicious hour for receiving the Prasad of Devi has been fixed 09:57 am today as per calendar, the entire day after the immersion of the Goddess is auspicious for that purpose.

The worship of Shree Durga Bhawani at Dashain Ghars over nine days concludes formally on the day of Vijaya Dashami after the Abhishekh — sprinkling of the holy water — takes place marking the beginning of Tika.

People receive Tika and Jamara till the full moon day. Tika and Jamara are considered the auspicious gifts of Nawa Durga, the nine goddesses, and they signify prosperity.

It is believed that one need not seek an auspicious hour if one undertakes any new assignment, marriage, campaign or journey on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami.

The Vijaya Dashami festival is celebrated in commemoration of the victory of truth over evil and the victory of divine forces over demonic forces.
